Epsom Methodist
Cricket Club
EMCC have had
one of their most successful seasons on and off the field in 2006. A full
fixture list has seen us play 22 games in four counties, in which we have
used 25 players, scored 3289 runs, taken 179 wickets, held 75 catches, and
created this website which gets thousands of hits.
What makes
EMCC special is the spirit in which we play the game, and the friendships we
make along the way. This team ethic is critical but there have been some key
individual milestones, which must be mentioned.
Jim Yelland
has taken 50th wicket for EMCC, Richard Darke scored our fastest
ever century, Doug Macintyre scored his first fifty for EMCC and Mark
Johnson scored his 4,000th run for the club.
Paul Pennock
joined EMCC this year, adding steel to the bowling and Geoff Morris had an
exceptional season, taking 46 wickets and the best catch of the season.
Perhaps the biggest individual improvement has been from Mike Darke, who has
transformed his play to become our most reliable opening batsman.
A good deal
of hard work has gone into the above success, and there have been trying
moments along the way. EMCC have had made a significant contribution to
keeping Epsom Hospital A&E department open with two broken fingers, a broken
collar bone, a fractured skull and dangerously wounded pride.
At the end of
the season we also need to say a big thank you to all those who supported
us. Included in this are all the wives and girlfriends who let the players
off DIY duty, Joan Morris and Thelma Darke for their superb teas, and Cliff
Douthwaite for powering the website forward.
