Report:

A key skill in batting is judging how a wicket will play and then amending your style of play to reflect it. When Paul Pennock and Jim Yelland opened up it was Redding who was best able to make that assessment and went on to score 65, while Jim and Paul took a wicket apiece in their opening bursts. Despite excellent bowling from both and a spell of bowling from Geoff “the cat” Morris which only cost 18 runs in 9 overs, a break through did not follow for 85 more runs. It took a fantastic catch from Colin “the crab” Smith (low to his right) to get Redding’s wicket, off the bowling of Doug Macintyre and break the partnership. Jay Zee then pouched a couple of wickets with his leg spin, including another stunning catch this time by Doug Macintyre, and Doug took another wicket caught behind off an effort ball that bounced. Despite EMCC’s athletic efforts in the field an eventual total of 192 was accumulated in the fifty third over.

The key question at tea. Which is better the home made carrot cake or the home made chocolate sponge? Perhaps we should reserve judgement until Steve bakes some more of his inspirational chocolate brownies which are Tom Hill’s favourites?

Badgers have consistently been a stronger batting side than EMCC and on one memorable occasion chased down a competitive total of 220 without losing a wicket. However this did not excuse the difference in scores today as EMCC batted without the discipline required on the wicket. Most frustrating was the fact EMCC had spent over fifty overs watching Badgers bat and still we hadn’t cracked how to bat on the wicket. The fact that extras top scored by 9 runs said all that needs to said. Extras are now 6th highest in the averages and may yet become our best player.

Fez Award:

Abbey “mini” Yelland, who was so appalled at the quality of the EMCC performance, reproduced her lunch in Steve Darke’s EMCC cap. An excellent comment on an awful batting performance by one so young. We can only assume that in 18 years time she will be showing the rest of us the correct way to bat!

So far

"But when I said what about a change, it was not a bowler I was suggesting!"

"But why put me in this stupid hat when I need a EMCC Cap"

"I can do better than some of today's batsmen, so why was I dropped?"

"I may not have much hair yet, but I know a cheap haircut when I see one!"

"But I don't understand it, I haven't eaten any tomatoes" - Cheers, Steve Pitts (Badgers CC webmaster, statistician ) see report below

Steve getting a hair cut rather than watching us bat, ready perhaps for a positional change to short snip?
