Superb All Round Effort
A clinical bowling and fielding display from EMCC set up a 5
wicket win at a damp Dundonald Recreation Park this Saturday.
1-Aug-09
Winning the toss and fielding first Paul “animal” Pennock used the
new ball superbly, taking the edge a number of times before getting
the first wicket. The first of Paul’s three wickets was clean bowled
and broke the stump, but his other wickets fell to catches with
excellent fielding to the fore, including Ian “Bambi” Briggs taking
a stunning one handed catch at mid-off.
Geoff “the silver fox” Morris eventually replaced Paul and proceeded
to bowl a superb spell for just two runs per over and taking four
wickets, including another excellent catch by Bambi, a nonchalant
catch from his brother Paul and a fine stumping from Tom “chops”
Hill. The quality of the EMCC performance in the field was typified
by Tom’s clean sheet behind the stumps and Paul “Capt Sparrow”
Briggs finished off the innings clean bowling the dangerous Vickery,
on a good day to be called Briggs.
The EMCC reply stuttered at the start with Matt “bully” Yelland
strangled down the leg side and Andy “nets” Grant falling to a catch
at point. However Paul Briggs entered the fray with a Caribbean back
foot drive over cover and settled into a nice batting rhythm before
being undone by a ball which jagged back from outside off stump. A
key partnership followed off 40 runs expertly glued together by
Richard “the arm” Darke, before he too was out, caught off a slow
full toss.
At 62 for 4 Morden were back in the hunt, but the wet ball made it
tough for the Morden bowlers and Tom Hill saw EMCC home. Tom’s cover
drive during his 14 run innings was outstanding and hit with
considerable élan, and it crowned a fine all round team performance
in difficult damp conditions.
Uninteresting fact:
Geoff Morris’ last 7 wickets have come at a cost of just 3.86
runs and at an average of 1.69 runs per over.
